Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux

Château
de Clotte

A historic terroir, a new approach.

Thirty-four hectares in a single block on the clay and limestone slopes of Castillon. A chartreuse built in 1782. And, since 2022, red wines of precision that let the terroir speak.

Story

A chartreuse from 1782, a project for today

Built in 1782, the chartreuse of Château de Clotte watches over one of the finest terroirs in Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux. Around it lie thirty-four hectares in a single block, between wooded valleys and clay and limestone slopes.

In 2020 the estate was taken over by winegrowers whose roots run deep in the vineyards of Tokaj, in Hungary. Long experienced in dry whites and great sweet wines, they had carried one ambition for years: to make their own great red in Bordeaux.

They brought together three neighbouring properties, Château de Clotte, Château Moulin de Clotte and Château Reynaud-Dunesme, restored the château and brought the vineyard back plot by plot. The new team's first vintages were born in 2022.

Our land

Ours are wines of terroir. Their character comes from the meeting of the vine and its surroundings: soils rich in clay and limestone, wooded hills that shelter the vineyard, and ripeness reached at its own pace.

  • 34 ha Vineyard

In a single block, across some thirty plots around the château.

  • 4 Grape varieties

Merlot, cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon and malbec.

  • Clay & limestone Soils

The soils that give the wines their depth and their freshness.

  • AOC Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux

On the right bank, at the gates of Saint-Émilion.

In the vineyard as in the cellar

Sorting of the grapes, plot-by-plot vinification, oak used with restraint to preserve the fruit: every step is designed to reveal the terroir rather than mask it.

From the 2023 vintage, the team works alongside the oenologists of Laboratoire Rolland & Associés.
